How to Make Your Vacuum Cleaner Smell Good

Your vacuum cleaner can help to keep your home smelling fresh by getting rid of dirt and other particles lodged in your carpet and on your floor. However, if you do not regularly maintain it, a vacuum can begin to contribute to the mess in your house by emitting a foul smell. Follow these simple instructions to learn how to keep your device smelling fresh all the time.

Step 1 – Clean the Vacuum

The first step is to start with a clean vacuum. Dampen the cleaning cloth and wipe down the entire surface of your vacuum to remove any dust on it. Change your vacuum bag and continue to replace it every two to three months regardless of whether it is full or not. If you use a washable bag for your vacuum or washable canister, remove it from the vacuum and clean it thoroughly.

Step 2 – Change the Filter

Filters in a vacuum cleaner work to keep dust, dirt, and allergens out of the air. It is recommended that you change your air filter every three to six months to keep your vacuum in optimal shape. Follow the instructions provided with the air filters to change them on your particular vacuum model.

Step 3 – Insert Perfume Pads

Buy perfume pads for your vacuum cleaner. Select a scent that appeals to you and place the pad as instructed over the top filter. Once the machine is turned on, the perfume pad will deliver a gentle scent into the house as air passes through it.

Step 4 – Add Cinnamon

Sprinkle a small amount of cinnamon either into the vacuum cleaner bag or into the debris compartment. The strong smell of cinnamon will counteract the smell of the particles that the vacuum picks up to provide a fresh scent. If you do not like cinnamon, try any number of other sweet smelling food items like coffee beans or dried orange rind to pre-fill your vacuum and providing some level of odor protection.

Step 5 – Add Baking Soda

Sprinkle one teaspoon of baking soda into your vacuum bag or your vacuum’s debris compartment. As an odor neutralizer, baking soda will prevent bad smells from coming back out into your home. Make it a habit to add both baking soda and cinnamon (or whatever you choose) to your new vacuum bag every time you change it for best results.

Use these simple tips to prevent unpleasant smells in your machine, and begin using your vacuum to freshen up your home instead of just clean it. Be creative and use your favorite natural scents to have the peace of mind that your home is clean and fresh.
