The Importance of Suction Power For a Vacuum Cleaner
How It’s Measured:
Many consumers are confused about the importance of a vacuum cleaner’s suction power, not to mention how it’s even measured.
First of all, the suction of air is measured by CFM or cubic feet per minute. The higher the CFM, the higher the suction power (most vacuum cleaners are in the 50-100 range).
Some vacuums are measured in watts and/or amps, with the higher number once again meaning the same thing.
Here are a few of the reasons that having a vacuum cleaner with high level suction strength is important:
Getting Rid of What You Can’t See:
The problem with machines that have a low level suction power is their inability to get rid of dirt and other things that you can’t actually see on the surfaces that you’re cleaning.
While you’re obviously not going to be able to get rid of every little bit of dust and dirt in your home, the higher the suction strength, the better your chances are of removing the “invisible” layer of dirt that you can’t see with the naked eye.
Children & Pets:
If you have children or pets at home, and they tend to spend a lot of time on the floor, then it becomes even more important that you remove as much of the dirt and dust from around your house as possible. Getting rid of them all of a sudden becomes a little more of a necessity than an extra incentive. As a result, so does the suction power of your vacuum cleaner.
One of the things you probably don’t want to hear is that there is a ton of hard dirt that is maneuvering its way throughout your carpet. This hard dirt is going to be constantly moved around and brought up as your children and pets move around it.
A high suction power vacuum cleaner gives you a much better chance of pulling out all this dirt without the constant need to deep clean your carpets.
Less Cleaning:
While we’ve already talked about cleaning dirt that you actually can’t see on the carpet or floor, the other obvious advantage of having a machine with a strong suction is that you won’t have to constantly go over the same spots over and over while cleaning.
There’s nothing more frustrating when you’re cleaning than not being able to actually “clean” the surface the first time around.
A good vacuum with the right amount of suction strength in this case can make your cleaning experience a lot more enjoyable, and quicker too.
Less Electricity Used:
You would think that this would be the opposite since you’re using a higher powered motor. The argument here, however, is that you will be doing less cleaning due to the fact that you will be able to clean faster and won’t have to continually go over the same spots, hence saving on the energy consumption.
