5 Signs Your Vacuum is Busted
Keeping a clean home can be a chore in itself, and having the right equipment can make all the difference. This can become a particularly important issue if, despite your regular vacuuming, your carpet isn’t staying clean.
If you suspect that your vacuum is not working on carpet, there are a few telltale symptoms that you can look out for. Here are five signs that your vacuum sucks, or rather, five signs that your vacuum is not suctioning.
-1. Strange Noises Coming From the Vacuum- Your vacuum may literally be crying out for help. If the vacuum is making unusual noises, or sounds like it’s working very hard to do its job, it’s a good indicator that something in the vacuum may be broken.
-2. Loss of Suction- Maybe you’re pushing your vacuum over a pile of crumbs, or perhaps a big dust bunny, on the linoleum floor and the mess just won’t disappear.
--If your vacuum can’t even pick up easy targets like crumbs or dust bunnies, it’s very likely that the vacuum is not suctioning correctly.--
3. Burning Vacuum Smell- This is one of the most unpleasant broken vacuum symptoms of them all. Many people with broken vacuums will notice a burning, smoky smell when the vacuum is operating. Such a scent is a strong sign that there is a motor problem with the vacuum
4. Wrong Vacuum for the Job- Depending on what type of carpet you have, having the right vacuum for the job can make all the difference.
--Carpets that are made of wool or shag can be difficult for smaller vacuums to get in and clean deep. Your vacuum cleaner may not be working simply due to the type of surface that you’re trying to clean with it. Make sure that you have a vacuum that’s ideal for the surfaces in your home, whether they’re tile, carpet, or linoleum.--
5. Blocked Vacuum Filters- Just like the filters in your furnace, or in your car’s air conditioner, vacuum filters need to be changed every once in awhile. Most filters don’t need to be changed too frequently; professionals recommend changing the filter every six vacuum bag changes or so.
