Are Vinyl Replacement Windows Good For Your Home?
When you are considering replacing your windows a great choice can be vinyl replacement windows. The best vinyl replacement windows offer durability and the ultimate in easy care and maintenance. While there are not many color options besides white, brown vinyl replacement windows can be made to look just like wood windows, but offer all of the benefits of vinyl. Some of the benefits include:
-Durability and strength: they will not peel, warp, split, rot, crack, or splinter.
-Low maintenance: there is no painting, sanding, or scraping required.
-Easy to clean: simply wipe away any dirt, simple and effective.
-High quality
-Enhanced glass system: offers dual panes of glass with double strength to ensure maximum energy savings.
-Energy efficient
-Easy to use
-Dependable
Vinyl is just one of the options of windows that are currently available. While there are many benefits to this great material, there are some downfalls as well. If you own an older home, it may be difficult to find a color of vinyl to match the home as vinyl cannot be painted like wood can.
However, there are many positives of choosing vinyl windows as well. This is one of the most durable products currently available. Vinyl offers a window that is long lasting and will bring added value to your home. There are many types of windows from which to choose and vinyl should be a material that is at least considered by everyone.
Pricing A Vinyl Window
When it comes to vinyl replacement windows prices, vinyl offers one of the cheaper options available. However, this does not mean that they lack in quality. There are many great vinyl window replacements available. In fact, vinyl is one of the most durable types of materials available when it comes to window installation.
When pricing windows for your home, there are several considerations that will need to be made. The first thing that you will need to consider is how many windows that you will be replacing. If you have a larger home with lots of windows, the cost to replace them is going to be much higher. In addition, if you have windows that are of an odd size, it may be necessary to special order the windows, which can add to the price.
The other consideration is the type of vinyl window that is chosen. Vinyl windows can cost anywhere from $150 up to over $500. The best will be nearer the top of the range. The cost of the window replacement will depend on the brand, manufacturer, and the features that are chosen.
It is important to note that many companies offer sales from time to time and this can help to lower the costs. Other things to look for are special promotions and tax credits that are being offered at the time you are looking to purchase your new windows.
Another consideration is the fact that installing new vinyl windows are going to help make your home more energy efficient. This means that you will be saving on your heating and cooling costs throughout the year. The perfect window will help keep your house cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, resulting in money in your pocket year round.
While taking on a window replacement project is a large and somewhat costly job, understanding all of the factors that affect the cost can help you select the right window for your home.
Vinyl Window Replacement Windows Installation: Not a Do it Yourself Project
One of the mistakes that many people make when considering window replacement is that they think that they can take on the project by themselves. While it may seem easy to install windows, the fact of the matter is that the process is quite difficult. It is extremely important that the window is installed correctly or the benefit of having energy efficient windows goes out the window, literally.
When purchasing your vinyl window replacement consider purchasing from a company that offers free installation with their pricing. If you purchase windows without installation included, make sure that you take the time to research different contractors to make sure that they are certified and will do the job correctly. Ask contractors for references and make sure that they guarantee their work.
Choosing new vinyl windows for your home is a project that should not be taken lightly. The cost of window replacement can be quite significant, which is why it is important to take your time when deciding on the type of window as well as where it is purchased from.
Make sure that the windows are purchased from a reputable manufacturer and that the reviews of the product are positive overall. It is also a good idea to purchase windows from a place that offers installation along with the price of the window as installing windows by yourself is not recommended. Hire a professional to ensure the installation process goes smoothly and is done correctly.
Overall, replacing the windows in your home is one of the best ways to add curb appeal to your home. This curb appeal will translate into extra money when the time comes to sell the home. The cost of replacing windows may seem daunting at first, but overall it is well worth the price as there are many benefits of having new windows in your home.
My Vacuum is Spitting Everything Out. Help!
Vacuum cleaners are very simple machines relying upon the flow of air through filters and a bag to clean floors. If they start spitting stuff out it means that the air flow has been reversed or it is not there at all.
Is the Machine Truly Blowing?
To be spitting everything out the vacuum cleaner has to be blowing when it should be sucking. If the electric motor that drives the vacuum cleaner is wired for a particular polarity it makes a difference which way it was plugged in to the mains. Just in case this unlikely situation is the cause, unplug the vacuum and reverse the plug and plug it in again. If the vacuum works properly there is a problem with the way the electric motor is installed and it needs to be remedied by an electrician
The only other way the machine can be blowing instead of sucking is if the drive belt from the electric motor to the fan has been twisted. A single twist would cause the fan to be driven in reverse. Removing the fan belt and straightening it out will solve the problem.
Did You Remember the Bag?
If you forget to fit the bag or fail to fit it properly the dirty air being drawn into the vacuum cleaner will be passing straight through the machine and leaving, carrying all the dirt with it. Fitting the bag properly should solve that problem. The same situation will arise if the bag is seriously damaged and is not capable of trapping the debris.
Is the Bag Ripped?
Although the filters should deal with it, a torn vacuum cleaner bag will also allow the dirt and dust to simply blow through the machine.
For Upright Cleaners
If an upright cleaner is spitting everything out it means that the brush roller is ejecting everything. There are two ways this can happen. If there is a blockage in the short stretch between the brush roller and the body of the machine there will be no stream of air to drive the dirt into the bag. The dirt will fall back onto the brush roller and out the front of the machine.
The other way is if there is a twist in the drive belt of the brush roller. A single twist in the brush roller drive belt will spin it in reverse so that it will eject the dirt from the front of the vacuum.
For Cylinder Cleaners
Older cylinder cleaners are unique in that they have hoses which can be connected to either end of the machine. This means that the owner has the option to select ‘suck’ or ‘blow’. Connecting the vacuum hose to the wrong end will give the impression that the machine is ‘spitting everything out’.
For Combination Machines
Some combination machines can be used for spraying. They have a special option to switch the machine from sucking to blowing in order to use paint sprayers or water sprayers powered by the vacuum cleaner motor. If yours is such a machine, check that you have it set to ‘suck’ rather than to ‘blow’.

8 Easy Steps to Clean Your Vacuum Brush Roller
The vacuum brush roller rotates and vibrates against the floors and carpets you are cleaning. To keep it working well you should clean it regularly.
Step 1 – Switch off Your Machine
Never perform any maintenance work with the vacuum cleaner plugged in and switched on.
Step 2 – Remove the Base Plate
Remove or open the base plate of the machine. This plate will be held by twist catches or screws and will either be removed altogether or be hinged so that it can swing out of the way.
Step 3 – Remove the Brush Roller
The brush roller will be held in place by two levers that will swing through 90-degrees or more. The brush roller will simply slide out of its housing bringing with it the drive belt. Slide the drive belt off the roller brush and check it for wear and tear.
Step 4 – Clean the Brushes
The brushes that are angled around the brush roller need to be cleaned. This is best done by using the pointed end of a pair of scissors or a knitting needle to remove as much of the dirt and fibers as possible.
Step 5 – Replace the Brushes
The brushes on the brush roller can wear out and may need replacing. The brushes fit into specially shaped slots in the roller and can be simply slid out when the bearings have been removed.
Step 6 – Clean the Bearings
The bearings of the roller can be unscrewed by holding the bearing at one end and turning the bearing at the other. Often an accumulation of long hairs get caught around the axle through the bearings and makes it a little stiffer to operate. A drop of light machine oil will help lubricate the bearings.
Step 7 – Reassemble the Brush Roller
The bearings are replaced in the same way you removed them.
Hold one and turn the other. The bearings will fit in only one position with guides to set them in the right position.
The drive belt has to be positioned on the drive spindle which you will be able see behind the brush roller. It is easier to do this before you fit the brush roller into place.
Slide the brush roller under the drive belt.
You will know it is the right way around because a groove in the roller for the drive belt will be in line with the belt.
Replace the brush roller into the slots it came out of.
Step 8 – Clean the Base Plate

Vacuum cleaner
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A vacuum cleaner, also known as a sweeper, is a device that uses an air pump (a centrifugal fan in all but some of the very oldest models), to create a partial vacuum to suck up dust and dirt, usually from floors, and from other surfaces such as upholstery and draperies.
The dirt is collected by either a dustbag or a cyclone for later disposal. Vacuum cleaners, which are used in homes as well as in industry, exist in a variety of sizes and models—small battery-powered hand-held devices, wheeled canister models for home use, domestic central vacuum cleaners, huge stationary industrial appliances that can handle several hundred litres of dust before being emptied, and self-propelled vacuum trucks for recovery of large spills or removal of contaminated soil. Specialized shop vacuums can be used to suck up both dust and liquids.
Name
Although "vacuum cleaner" and the short form "vacuum" are neutral names, in some countries (UK, Ireland) "hoover" is used instead as a genericized trademark, and as a verb. The name comes from the Hoover Company, one of the first and more influential companies in the development of the device. The device is also sometimes called a "sweeper" although the same term also refers to a carpet sweeper, a similar invention.
History
The vacuum cleaner evolved from the carpet sweeper via manual vacuum cleaners. The first manual models, using bellows, were developed in the 1860s, and the first motorized designs appeared at the turn of the 20th century, with the first decade being the boom decade.
Modern configurations
A wide variety of technologies, designs, and configurations are available for both domestic and commercial cleaning jobs.
Technology
A vacuum's suction is caused by a difference in air pressure. A fan driven by an electric motor (often a universal motor) reduces the pressure inside the machine. Atmospheric pressure then pushes the air through the carpet and into the nozzle, and so the dust is literally pushed into the bag.

Why Doesn’t My Vacuum Cleaner Work?
Since we service as well as sell at Shelby Vacuum, “Why doesn’t my vacuum work” is a question we hear a lot, followed by, “And what can I do about it?” Sometimes the answers are complicated. Other times, they’re pretty simple. On that side, here are some things you can do yourself to see check why your vacuum may not be working as you expect, and what you can do about them.
-It’s lost suction and is not picking up.
It could be that you have plenty of suction, but the brush is not working. Take off the brush and feel the end of the hose. If the suction seems right, the brush may need replacing, or it could have an obstruction that prevents it from turning (see below).
If, on the other hand, you take the tool off and you don’t feel adequate suction, the first thing to check is the dustbag. The more dust in a bag, the less suction, and the bag doesn’t have to be completely full to need changing. If you can see dust and dirt near the opening, it’s time to change it.
If the bag is OK, check the filters. They, too, can restrict airflow through the machine and reduce suction. A good rule of thumb is to replace your HEPA filters every year and other filters with every five bag changes.
Finally, check the hose. Remove any tools and detach it from the main body. Then drop a nickel in one end and see if it comes out the other. If it doesn’t, the problem is a clogged hose. If you can’t blow or shake out whatever is causing the clog, it’s time to give us a call.
-There’s no power.
If the vacuum is not doing anything, that is, there’s no power, stop. It could be that the vacuum cleaner is overheated and the automatic shutoff has kicked in. If that’s the case, wait a bit and try it again.
Otherwise, if it’s plugged in and not running, or it keeps shutting down, stop using it. Check the hose and see if it’s clogged. Otherwise, it’s probably an electrical problem that you won’t be able to diagnose or fix.
-The brush isn’t turning.
Brushrolls depend on a belt to transfer power from the motor to the brush. If the belt is slipping or broken, the brush won’t turn.
Sometimes, the brush shuts off it encounters unusual stress, such as getting the end of rug caught in it. If that’s the case, it just needs to be reset. Look for a small red button on the bottom of the vacuum that you can push to re-set the brush and get it moving again.
Sometimes fibers from rugs or even dental floss get tied up in the brush and stop it from moving. If it’s just wrapped around the brush, turn off the vacuum and pull or carefully cut the fibers with a single-edge razor blade or box cutter. Never use a knife. It might slip and cut you.
-My vacuum is making a strange noise.
With vacuums that us a fan to create suction, small objects can be sucked in and rattle against fan blades. In short order, the can break the fan, so if you hear a noise, turn off the vacuum immediately. Regardless, any noise that is unusual means there’s something wrong with the machine, and you should have it checked.
If you ever have any doubts about the reason why your vacuum cleaner is not working or if it is safe to use, stop using it. Never take a chance with any piece of machinery, especially if it’s plugged into the wall. Give Shelby Vacuum a call, instead, we have the best repairman money can buy..plus he can fix just about anything!!!
